Featured Bike - 1926 PARAGON-VILLIERS
This excellent example of someone’s 1st bike was sold by Fred Deeley Motor Cycles of 563 W. Broadway in Vancouver. These motor bikes were basically “kits” manufactured by Sun Cycle in England using a Sun frame with a Villiers Mk VIIIC 147cc 2 stroke motor mated to an Albion 2 speed gearbox and featuring Druid front forks. They were shipped to Vancouver where they were “Assembled” and sold as stated on the preserved fork neck decal.
This bike recently resurfaced after being parked in 1931 due to what was now found to be a faulty magneto condenser. Terry Frounfelker, the proud owner, is believed to be the third owner as he purchased the bike from David Johnson, who had purchased the bike from the original owner’s son in 1971. With less than a $100 in parts and some much need attention the little Villiers came to life again after being silent for 83 years.
It is wonderful this snap shot of motorcycling in the mid 1920’s survived as many bikes of this period were turned into war armament for WW2.
