4th Annual GVMC Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride and Poker Run

The morning started out cold, rainy and very much like a winter day for the August 30th ride. The day before had actually been even worse so we were not holding out too much hope for a good rider turn out. The helpers and all the hardy souls that had camped out were bundled up and anxiously waiting for the hot pancake breakfast that Donna and Rob were making for them. It was not looking good.

We were ready but would they come? By nine o-clock it was looking a little brighter and riders were starting to roll in. By the time that sign-up was done there were 65 riders in all; 55 adults and 10 kids anxious and ready to go.

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers the course was in great shape. The long course was over 40 KM and the short course was 8 KM. Some of the riders rode both courses and others chose to do the short course several times. The kids course was just a little over 2 KM and they all did five laps. This was a poker run so playing cards were drawn to determine the winners.

By early afternoon the sun came out and when the dust was settled and the last card was counted we had a father and son winning combination. John Johnson was the first place adult rider and John Johnson Jr. was first in the kid’s class.

The adults got trophies for the first six riders and the kids for the first four riders. All the kids received a medallion and there were plenty of great prizes to choose from as well. Everyone agreed and by all reports it was a great day.

As well as making breakfast, Donna had chips, cold drinks and sandwiches hot from the grill available for sale. Thank you Donna and all your helpers for the great food.

It takes many volunteers to put this all together and we could not do it without them. Thanks to Jackie for taking care of sign–up and everything related to it. To Bill and Phil for being everywhere and anywhere that they were needed, to Brock and John for monitoring the kid’s course and keeping them safe and to all the many others who helped as checkers and spotters.

Thanks also for the generous donations from the following:
Gnarly Parts - KMS Tools – Lordco – Princess Auto – Check point – 2nd Gear
