The Spring Ride and Social was instigated in 2007 by Dwight and Pat Harris to get the riding season off to a good start and to polish up rusty riding skills. It was a chance to renew accquaintances with fellow Club Members and socialize over dinner after the winter hiatus.

Event Comments: 9th Annual GVMC Spring Road Run
It started out a cold miserable day with pounding rain and hail etc. Despite the weather with a great route, it was great fun for the Spring Run!
This year's 9th Annual GVMC Road Ride started with pouring rain and hail but the temperatures warmed up by mid afternoon. Name a type of weather and we had it that day but still 36 brave souls came to participate in the event. Riders started arriving at the Clubhouse before 9:00am. They enjoyed coffee and muffins while waiting to have their photo taken.
By the time the Ride was ready to start there were 25 bikes, 7 passengers and two cars with four people ready to brave the elements. The route took them out to Matsqui, over to Mission, through Maple Ridge, to Port Moody, into Burnaby, across the Alex Fraser Bridge before returning back to our Clubhouse via the new South Fraser Perimeter Road.
There were two check points at the Club before the Ride, one in Matqui Park and the final two back at the Clubhouse on their return. Lots of chilly riders ended at the Clubhouse to be warmed with a hot Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner complete with Caesar Salad, Garlic Toast and Pie and Ice-cream for Dessert. We then awarded the prizes for the Checkpoint winners and did draws for door prizes.
First Place – John Pearson Second Place – Gordie Thompson Third Place – Tracy Inglis Last Place – Ron Gaudette
There were a few new faces and some old familiar ones as well - great to see everyone out for this first event of the year.
Thanks to all who helped with the event whether it was dinner, route, checkpoints, sign up etc. We couldn’t do the event without you. Thanks to all that came out - it really was a great day despite the weather!
You can see photos from the Ride and Individual photos of participants on their bikes on the GVMC Website in the Photo Gallery.
