History Of The Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride
Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride
The Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride was started in 2012 by the organizers of the Piston Run. They felt with all the time and work the Club did clearing, developing, and maintaining trails they should be using them for more than one Run per year. There were also plans, at the time, to develop a short loop that was suitable for small, wheeled bikes which would attract families and kids, so the Bear Loop was built.
It was decided to hold the event in late summer when all the snow would be gone off the higher trails to expand the full use of the course and try a Poker Run rather than an all-out competition.
The first event was a great success and each year it has gotten bigger. In later years, we rebuilt the Bear Cup Loop and added a Kid’s event as well, making this a great time for families and also avid riders.
Event Comments: 11th Annual GVMC Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride & Poker Run
The 11th Annual GVMC Chipmunk Trail Riders Association Poker Run was August 21, 2022.
We had 92 sign ups, and awarded prizes based on poker hands. We had four categories, Youth, Bear Cub Youth, Ladies and Adults. We also had random draws for adult and kids prizes. Everything from a PS4 and other toys to chain lube and a helmet and a tire.
The GV crew worked hard to clear trails the weeks before and we were rewarded with great weather and 4 exciting trail options. Loop "A" was about 44 Km's long and went over Ping-Ping and Mercer Parkway. Loop "B" was about 8 Km long and featured some of the best lower Chipmunk trails. Loop "C" was a short 3 Km loop of similar trails geared to newbies or novices who find the kids Bear Cub Loop too easy. The fourth loop was our world renowned Bear Cub Loop for all the ages of 2-12's.
Each participant was offered a hot dog and a drink with their entry fee and other concessions were also offered.
Everyone loved the trails and the day of riding with comments about looking forward to next year.
