History Of The Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride

Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride

The Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride was started in 2012 by the organizers of the Piston Run. They felt with all the time and work the Club did clearing, developing, and maintaining trails they should be using them for more than one Run per year. There were also plans, at the time, to develop a short loop that was suitable for small, wheeled bikes which would attract families and kids, so the Bear Loop was built.

It was decided to hold the event in late summer when all the snow would be gone off the higher trails to expand the full use of the course and try a Poker Run rather than an all-out competition.

The first event was a great success and each year it has gotten bigger. In later years, we rebuilt the Bear Cup Loop and added a Kid’s event as well, making this a great time for families and also avid riders.

Event Comments:
2024 13th Annual GVMC Chipmunk Creek Trail Ride and Poker Run

August 25th was our annual Poker run at the staging area in Chilliwack BC.

Many days preparation in advance by Chris Carey, Ray Keller and Andrew De Jong and others helped clear overgrown trails and other obstacles.

Set up Started in earnest on the prior Wednesday through Saturday with arrows and ribbons.
In all, 4 routes were offered to participants.
1. The "D" loop was the kids bear cub trail
2. The "C" loop for novice and intermediate riders, a short 20 minute loop
3. The "B" loop for seasoned riders an extension of the "C" loop with a few more challenges and some steep downhills
And 4. The "A" loop for skilled riders taking them over the top of Mercer Parkway via Ping Ping.

We had a very good turnout with about 100 participants who came and enjoyed the good weather, after the heavy rain the prior week.
Moms, dads and kids alike.

We gave credit to our sponsors to all who attended and without them there would be no prizes.

We would like to thank
GA Checkpoint Coquitlam
International Motorsports Langley
The Honda Center Burnaby
Mountainview Motorsports Chilliwack and
Gnarly Parts Chilliwack.

Many thanks to the volunteers, Chris, Ray, Andrew, Trevor, June, Rob, Debbie, Phil, Jim B., Bill, and any others. I hope I have not forgotten anyone.

See you all soon with more planned events.
