FOR ALL YOU NEW MEMBERS THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO KNOW THE MEMBERS OF OUR SISTER CLUB THAT YOU HAVE PROBABLY HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT. IT IS ALSO A GREAT TIME TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE COMPANY OF YOUR OWN CLUB MEMBERS, RIDE WITH THEM AND GET TO KNOW THEM BETTER. THERE IS ALWAYS SOME FRIENDLY COMPETITION, A SCENIC RIDE, FOOD, FUN AND LOTS OF TIME FOR SOCIALIZING.
GETTING THERE WILL BE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE, MAKE A PLAN AND JOIN A GROUP, TAKE A TOUR OR JUST TAKE THE DIRECT ROUTE ON YOUR OWN. WHATEVER YOU DECIDE, WE’LL SEE YOU THERE!

You may be redirected to a calendar page. Please re-select your dates for check in & check out, then press the blue button that says “UPDATE DATES OF STAY.”

2019 GVMC/OMC BIENNIAL HALFWAY RUN RIDE REPORT
The 21st Biennial Halfway Run ran according to schedule. The pins however took a little side trip due to a shipping error and ended up in South Carolina one week before the event. With much cooperation and good luck we managed to get them delivered to the hotel in time. We were back at The Village Green Inn for the seventh time. The staff and management have always been more than generous in providing everything we ask for and then some. They continued to go out of their way for us this year.
The ride to this event is however you want it to be. Some just came straight there and many added on a day, a few days, or even a week or more. The ride down the Coast this year seemed to have a lot more traffic to slow things down but it was probably still the coolest way to get there. Others braved the heat of the mid or eastern state or other eastern states and all claimed to have had great rides and many stories about their adventures. Being there was the important thing for everyone.
Our group was smaller than in previous years but what we lacked in size we made up for in enthusiasm. There were quite a few new members this time and they were warmly welcomed into the fold. Our Friday night reception was held inside again at the suggestion of the hotel and they even set it up banquet style for us. The appetizers were very good, the bar was open and so once again the cocktail hour became a full evening of eating, sharing a drink with friends and much socializing. There was plenty of food left for a few late arrivals and many people still there to greet them. A good evening and a great time.
Saturday morning was a beautiful day for a ride or any of the other activities people chose to do. Jim Sloat had a ride set for 9:00 A.M. and riders lined up early in anticipation.
The following is Jim’s report of his ride:
We left the Village Green at 9:00 A.M. sharp and traveled through Cottage Grove to the freeway and on to exit 192 to Lorraine. From there we took the backroads to the first turnoff. This is where I let the two wheel bikes take the lead as we travelled the backroads and enjoyed the many curves and twisties. We regrouped for a picture and then travelled back towards the main road on single lane blacktop and then onto a gravel section about 3 ½ miles long which took us back to the main road. From there we rode through Drain and back onto the Freeway towards Cottage Grove and on to a Corner Store for lunch. Since most of the riders returned to the hotel as we were passing through Cottage Grove the ride was terminated after lunch. Everyone seemed to enjoy the ride and have a good time.
Emma laid out a Poker Walk through the garden and 16 willing participants joined her on a grueling two block walk. There were stops at each of the garden way points for an update on the flora & fauna and to choose a piece of yarn which became the score for that checkpoint. There was much good natured ribbing, joking and plenty of silliness throughout the course and in the end Wendy and Zena emerged with the high and low scores to take the prizes.
Saturday afternoon found us lined up for the much anticipated running of our biennial sailboat race. The participants were ready and the captains in place, would the GVMC manage to hold their undefeated title? Could this be the year that the OMC would finally break their losing streak? The cheers, catcalls, and chants were coming from both sides, all the sailors were eager… ready, set, go… and it was over just as quickly… calm water now but oh how the tide has changed… the mighty have fallen. THE OMC HAS WON THE SAILBOAT RACE! The GVMC has been defeated… neither side were sure what happened until our Commodore, Larry Frye made it official, the OMC has won their first sailboat race at last, the cheers were deafening and I must admit that there were many of the GVMC members cheering as well. Two years from now we will be back to face off again. Can we reclaim our title? Only time will tell.
The group photo was next but someone had parked a truck under our club banners, after searching unsuccessfully for the owner we arranged chairs and benches and lined up anyway but Richard our photographer could not get a good angle for us all without having the truck in the picture too. Some more searching but no truck driver in sight or sound. So Richard decided to face us in the opposite direction and with the sun behind us he now managed to get us all lined up for what I think is one of the best photos in many years. Thank you Richard.
It’s on to the grand finale, our banquet… once again the hotel has outdone themselves with the table settings, orange flowers of all description at the centers. (I heard a rumor that Jamie our banquet manager had arrived at the local Safeway store very early that morning and bought every orange flower in the place.) Before the dinner there were a couple of presentations by the two clubs. Mark & Dwight presented to the two club presidents Bill and Brent, plaques engraved with a short history of the original meeting and the events that have led us to our forty years together. The two club presidents then presented Mark & Dwight with certificates which everyone had signed thanking them for all of their efforts over the last forty years.
We shared a moment of silence for those no longer with us… and then off to the buffet. The meal was delicious and plentiful as usual with wine on the tables and a great dessert. What more could we ask for? But there is more, entertainment too!
Wes and his band of merry men and women took the stage to entertain us with a not so newlyweds newlywed game, some songs, a few skits, and a sing-along. We learned that some “sisters of the cloth” do go to hell along with a few others, 20 plus reasons why millennials don’t buy Harley’s, and also what a certain Scotsman wears under his kilt (way too much information on that one). Much laughter many cheers and a great show. Well done, Wes, Deb, Phil, Julie, Ron, Richard, Mike, John, Emma, and James. Many thanks to all for your efforts, talent and hard work.
Sunday Morning comes all too quickly and it is time to say our goodbyes again. The Hotel is already booked for 2021 so we hope to see you there.
