Event Comments: RECAP AUG 30 – 3 LAKES TOUR. GVMC WEEKEND RIDER’S SERIES FOR AUGUST 30 SUNDAY: 3 LAKES TOUR.
Mark Lotzkar met me before 8 AM in the GVMC parking lot. We headed off at 8 am towards Fort Langley. Swept Derby Reach into Fort Langley.
I specifically routed on 252 St. to see the old red farmhouse. Since I routed, the farmhouse has burned down. This is terrible and a bit suspicious indeed. See pics of what remains. We took a few pics and headed off.
Unknowingly I routed past where Jim Brooke was laid to rest and I immediately thought back to that day riding out to the cemetery. Dave Siefert led a group of GVMC members past and present out to the ceremony. I really miss Jim being at the club and out for rides.
Mark and I made our way across Abbottsford into to Chilliwack taking on Majuba Hill Road out to Cultus. Road around Cultus up to the upper bench skirting the US border. We stopped for a coffee break and headed down past Cultus. Got down and then headed up Chilliwack Lake Rd. Long way up to the Lake passing the GVMC turnoff to the Chipmunk Creek staging area. We stopped when the pavement ended and took a short break.
Definitely got some misty rain on the way up but I did not break out my rain gear. Back down and over to the Ryder Lake area. Hit a few new roads in the area which was all nice and twisty. A lot of gravel and loose bits on the road and some poor pavement. It is a gorgeous area to ride and I would do it again anytime.
Exited Ryder and headed to Vedder Road to have lunch at the Jolly Miller Pub. Super great pub with lots of proper indoor and outdoor seating. FYI Mark treated! Far better than Duke’s Pub if I were to compare. Big menu and daily specials. Great food with decent prices. Our server was great!
360-400 kms Mark had a longer ride coming from Yaletown. Very little traffic for a weekend. Pretty clear sailing all day. Another enjoyable easy ride.
