Details: The cost for the Ride pulse a souvenir is $30.00 per person. Passengers are welcome at the same cost. Sign up at the GVMC Clubhouse or contact John Taylor. Email - jakers_357@hotmail.com The souvenirs will be handed out at the Riders' Meeting Saturday morning. It is an item that you may find a use for on the Ride. In order to ensure you get your souvenir on Saturday please sign up for the Ride no later than May23rd so that sufficient time is available to order them. If you are later than this you might not get the souvenir at the Riders' Meeting but one will be ordered for you and you will receive it at a later date.

History Of The Routledge Run
This event was started in 1954, dedicated to Bob Routledge, a respected motorcycle mechanic and one of the signers of the 1939 GVMC incorporation. The original perpetual trophy features a pewter figure of a German army dispatch rider on a BMW that was donated to the Club by GVMC member Don Franks. This may have been a souvenir brought back by returning soldiers after World War II, but it’s exact origin and significance is a mystery.
Traditionally, the event was held as a Saturday ride to a campground, with a field meet on Sunday. Field meets involved tests of rider skill, such as riding a length of 2x4, throwing darts from a moving bike, rolling a barrel with the front wheel, a slow race (last one across the finish line wins, touch a foot down you’re out), and any other crowd pleasing stunts the organizers could dream up.
The field meets gradually lost their appeal, and with the rise in dual sport riding, the event was given a fresh approach. The Routledge Run has in recent years been successful as a two-day ride, with street riders and dual sport riders taking separate routes to an overnight campout. The camaraderie and good times continue.

2024 70th Annual GVMC Routledge Run
This year’s Routledge Run was based in Cache Creek where we stayed at the Sandman Inn. The run is usually held the 3rd weekend of July but this year we moved it up to the 1st weekend, July 5 – 7, to try to avoid the high summer heat and the associated forest fire problems it brings.
Thirteen people showed up for the event and ten of them took part in the group ride. This year the event was a road ride only; the off-pavement component was dropped because of lack of participants. The road course covered 342 KM.
We left the Sandman at 8:00 AM, had lunch in Merritt and got back to Cache Creek in the early afternoon – just in time to avoid the afternoon high temp of 37 degrees.
On Friday and Saturday, we met at the Bear’s Claw Lodge for dinner. The Bear’s Claw is probably the finest restaurant in Cache Creek and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended.
All the participants in the event were given a small, pocket size telescope as a souvenir of the ride. The telescope is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand but gives a surprisingly good image and is ideal for taking on rides.
The success of any ride depends on the participants, and we had a great group of people for this event. Thanks to Barry Cargo, Bill Wells, Brad Bond, Chris Carey, Dave Seifert, Deb and Wes Jamieson, Jim Brooke, Kevin O’Brien, Pat Minardi, Scott Hopkins, Stephen Shimek, and ride coordinator John Taylor for attending this ride.
One unfortunate incident occurred when Rob Paul-Morris’ bike broke down in Agassiz and he was unable to continue.
A great time was had by all attendees and next year’s Routledge Run promises to be more of the same.
