History of the New Year's Day
This event has been a tradition for the hardcore (and the hung over) for about 30 years. What better way to bring in the New Year, and show your commitment to the sport!
Due to the variable weather, the event is usually fairly short road ride, starting and ending at the clubhouse. Hot drinks and food are always served. Previous events have included dirt bikes running trailer plates in the snow; riders with “Happy New Year” party hats taped onto their helmets and blowing noisemakers; and a sidecar rig needing a push to get up the icy hill in back of the old clubhouse.
When the weather is fair, there are usually 20 or more riders. Dual sport bikes predominate when the roads turn to slush or were recently salted. Whatever the turnout, it is always a good time.

Event Comments: 2020 GVMC New Year's Day Run
Another outstanding Jan 1st ride to begin the year! Thanks to good weather and great people we have once again shown that we are a group that loves to ride!
This year consisted of two teams and twelve riders with two automobiles bringing up the rear on a beautiful 12 degree sunny day. The teams embarked at 11 am with a slow race dominated by Dave Seifert of course. They headed out to follow the river in Fort Langley, then worked their way down to the border before heading back to the clubhouse for lunch around 1 pm. 126 kilometers of scenic Langley and Surrey roads seemed to be just the ticket to start the year.
Back at the clubhouse a family feud style contest was held and the black team was quick to respond dominating by 70 % and this combined with their individual scores marked them as the big winners.
Top Solo Scores: # 1 Guest, Ron Lacey # 2 Dave Massy # 3 Dave Seifert And the 50/50 being won by Barry and Marilyn.
All in all another great day on two wheels to start off the 2020 Riding Season. Thanks to everyone for turning out and helping make another great GVMC event a success
