This event has been a tradition for the hardcore (and the hung over) for about 45 years. What better way to bring in the New Year, and show your commitment to the sport, than by going for a ride?
Due to the variable weather, the event is usually fairly short road ride, starting and ending at the clubhouse. Previous events have included dirt bikes running trailer plates in the snow. A bus with a group of fair-weather riders, people with “Happy New Year” party hats taped onto their helmets and blowing noisemakers; and a sidecar rig needing a push to get up the icy hill in back of the old clubhouse.
We always finish back at the Clubhouse with hot drinks and a meal which gives everyone a chance to tell tall tales about the Ride that day. When the weather is fair, there are usually 20 or more riders. Dual sport bikes predominate when the roads turn to slush or were recently salted. Whatever the turnout, it is always a good time.

Event Comments: GVMC 2023 New Year's Day Ride
Once again Jan. 1st marked the start of the season for the hardcore GVMC members and guests who turned out to ride as a way to kick off the New Year.
With fair weather at 10 degrees and great people we have once again shown that we are a group that loves to ride rain or shine.
This year both teams set out at 11:15am with a slow race and then sped off for a scenic ride out to Fort Langley, Abbotsford and South Surrey before heading back to the clubhouse to have a hot lunch at 2pm.
Team and individual scores combined marked the black team as the winners by a slim margin thanks to Phil Blackburn and his quick answers.
Top individual scores of the day: #1 Bill MacDonald #2 Shayne Dumas #3 Jim Sloat
