This event has been a tradition for the hardcore (and the hung over) for about 45 years. What better way to bring in the New Year, and show your commitment to the sport, than by going for a ride?
Due to the variable weather, the event is usually fairly short road ride, starting and ending at the clubhouse. Previous events have included dirt bikes running trailer plates in the snow. A bus with a group of fair-weather riders, people with “Happy New Year” party hats taped onto their helmets and blowing noisemakers; and a sidecar rig needing a push to get up the icy hill in back of the old clubhouse.
We always finish back at the Clubhouse with hot drinks and a meal which gives everyone a chance to tell tall tales about the Ride that day. When the weather is fair, there are usually 20 or more riders. Dual sport bikes predominate when the roads turn to slush or were recently salted. Whatever the turnout, it is always a good time.

2024 GVMC New Year’s Day Run
Some like to take a dip into the frigid waters of the Pacific on the first day of the year. The GVMC members and friends rev up their engines and put the rubber to the road starting the year with the wind in their faces and sun, rain or snow on their backs riding scenic roads along the Fraser river and through the valley.
Geared up and on the road at 11:00 am precisely with the sun shining brightly and temperatures near a record high the riders showed their passion for the sport to any that may have witnessed them roaring on by.
Returning from the ride at 1:45 pm for a hot lunch and comradery in the clubhouse the event wrapped up at 3:30 pm with enough time to get home, park the bike and smile at ourselves for having yet another first ride on the first day of the New Year.
Thanks to everyone's turnout and effort we enjoyed another successful GVMC event to start the season.
