History Of The Spring Ride and Social

The Spring Ride was instigated in 2007 by Dwight and Pat Harris to get the riding season off to a good start and to polish up rusty riding skills. It was a chance to renew acquaintances with fellow Club Members and socialize over dinner after the winter hiatus.

A highlight of this Ride was a group photo of all the riders in front of our banner and individual keepsake photos presented to each rider. Initially all the individual photos were posted on a back board on the Clubhouse wall during the year’s riding season.

Over the years, The Spring Ride has continued to be the event that starts the riding season off for us.

Event Comments:
May 4, 2025 GVMC Spring Run Report

We had a beautiful sunny day, not too hot and not too cold. We had 13 bikes, 1 passenger, 1 donation, and 7 for dinner attending the Run. So, 22 people participated in the Run.

The Route Sheet was 5 addresses for 5 destinations Maple Ridge Museum and Community Archives, Surrey Nature Center, Stewart Farmhouse, Café at Fraser Valley Auctions and the Greater Vancouver Zoo with a question to answer at each destination.

It was good to see some new faces at the Run. Mike Dodd from Eagle Wings formerly the Gold Wing Riders. Leon Lee who came out from Burnaby, loved the Ride and was fascinated with the Stewart Farm - wants to bring his kids there. Our new fellow Brandon had trouble with the chain on his bike and was helped out by Wes Jamison.

Winners:
1st Place Dwight Harris
2nd Place Bob Vickers
3rd Place Vern Billing

Thank you to all the helpers Cheryl and Gerry Acton (kitchen and cleaning tables), Virginia Billing (Dishes and cleaning the hall floor),Vern Billing opening and setting up for the photos, Dave Kingston taking the photos and Jackie Heppler (signup, advertising, cooking and kitchen cleanup). If I have missed anyone I apologize. Without all the helpers this Run wouldn't happen.
